Upslope is mesic tulip poplar -oak fragmented by old road beds. Surrounding area on private land is criss-crossed by gas well roads. Upland forest mostly oak -hickory similar to New River plateaus.;Floodplain terrace of intermittent stream on rolling plateau. Terrace is likely sometimes flooded by bank overflow and also by runoff from uplands. Forest with tulip poplar mixed with sugar maple, oaks, hickory, and birch. Shrub layer includes paw paw and blue beech. Fluvial microtopography with a 1m range in relative elevation in plot.
